A week or two ago, I was reading the replies to a post from a mother concerned that her son had no friends. One of the replies was from someone in Australia who mentioned that she took her child to swimming classes that were held especially for special needs kids and how the families they met there were more tollerant of differences.
I now can't find this thread :x but I'd like to know where in Australia they were. My son is 3 and has ASD. He pays very little attention to his swimming teacher and therefore doesn't progress. I'd love to get him into a class taught by someone who understands his special needs and how to get through to him.

Best wishes to you. It appears to me that learning to swim in Australia is a necessity --- it's a must...

Thanks Wedge for finding that for me.
Yes ruennsheng - it is very important to learn to swim if you live in Australia. There are beaches very close to where we live and many people have back yard swimming pools and it is swimming weather for a large part of the year.
