When your child's second grade teacher gets confused about her lesson on grammar and asks your child for the correct answer to another students question. (She was the best teacher we've had so far too, just love her.)

When your kid makes flowcharts for choose-your-own-adventure books.

When your kid doesn't like the Jungle Book movie, because a male elephant is leading the herd, and that's completely wrong - it should be the oldest female in the lead, with the other adult elephants being females too.

That one always bothered me too! My kids haven't picked up on it yet though!

When your exhausted 4 year old stops the entire family, including the tantrum throwing 3 year old and has everyone go the the Hall of the Planet Earth to watch the entire Zircon movie before leaving the Museum of Natural History. This is after she has been through the dino exhibit.

What is really impressive is her enthusiasm for and commitment to the earth's crust is so powerful even the overtired, over hungry 3 year old sister relents.

Oh, maybe I should back up some years. When your 2.5 year old opts to sit in her stroller during Mommy and Me music class because she is MEMORIZING the floor plan of the Natural History Museum.

When you cheer up your depressed kid with a family viewing of OK Go's Rube Goldberg video, followed by the making of videos.

ooh, I'm new here, but this sounds like fun ;)

.... when you go on vacation to Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks and stay in an absolutely fantastic cottage, and your 8-year-old writes in the comment book that the best thing about this cottage is it has The Weather Channel (we have a weather-obsessed child and no cable at our house).

And you know your spouse is a geek, when you find this on your shopping list: "Tea, Earl Grey, not yet hot."

When your 4 year old find this on you tube and it becomes her new favorite video

Yes, we now have the full set. There really is a nursery rhyme explaining DNA. 8O

When your 5 yr old son actually enjoys hanging out with you all day listening to your music CD's.

And when he wants to look up VW's on the internet, especially Kharmann Ghias (a VW sports car from the 70's)

When your ten year old is more interested in the axial drive mechanism of the bull-wheel used for moving the tram, than with riding in the tram.

When on a rare sunny day he would rather read a 400 page manual on programming in C+ than go for a bike ride.

When their favorite TV show is "How it Works".

When he designs his own devices like trash compactors and ski lifts using Lego pneumatics and programs his Lego NXT to run his model train set.

I don't know if my son qualifies, but when he'd rather watch documentaries on construction equipment and trains than watch cartoons (just now turned 4), and I had to use the construction equipment to teach him shapes and colors because he had zero interest in anything else. When he was 3 he could tell you what everything was and what it did, even knew what an octogon was, but didn't know any colors or any basic shapes.

Heh. I was just doing a cryptoquiz with my son -- I thought he'd be into it because the subject was shapes. He had trouble thinking up "triangle," but was quick to see "heptagon" and "sphere."
