A shirt they like to wear a lot or costume etc.? Going off the show Parenthood (not sure your view is on that AS child but he likes a pirate costume) My 8 year old sister loves her Gymnastics outfit (although we only went once). She also loves her Bathing Suit and now since Halloween is in a month she comes home and puts on her Cat Costume LOL! Mom/Dad/Older Sister thank it's crazy OMG why would you want to come home (from school) and put on your Halloween costume?! !! I find it cute. While she hasn't been evluated for AS the more traits I see and things related to it the more I believe she has it. :-) I just hope if a diagnosis ever does come it's where she can get help. I'm hoping since she has school where I didn't (I left after 5th grade to do tutors/homeschool) maybe she can meet SOME friends.

I don't have an AS or any other child, but I love wearing the same articles of clothing all the time :D

It is normal for any kid to get really attached to an article of clothing and Halloween costumes? Isn't dress-up a favorite activity for kids? Of course, it's normal!

I agree, it's very normal. For kids with AS, who tend to have a love of routine and preference for certain textures/dislike of others, it might be particularly common.

Millie, almost 16 now, and diagnosed with AS just a few months ago, has always had favourite clothes - one summer (not so very long ago, definately whilst in her teens) she spent all summer in a football (soccer) kit, complete with shin guards...

When she gets something new she wears it and wears it and wears it - it is very difficult to get it off her to wash it!

Worse than having favourite clothes though is her dislike of others - she hated frilly vests, or polo necks, or anything too tight, even from a very young age.

My son is 6 and we noticed real early on that he was real particular about the clothes he would wear. His socks have to be so big that they are falling off his feet, No collars or buttons. His preffered clothing is sweat pants and a long sleave shirt. This summer we got him to wear shorts because we found some silky ones he liked the feel of. We found some second hand T-shirts that were soft and "broke in" and he wore those for the first time. Nomally he would not want to leave the house in the summer, because he would be so hot in his clothes.

My son jumps around to different things. He only used to wear sweatpants. He still loves long sleeves and now he is on to this light that goes on your head like a miner.
Isn't it normal for everyone to love certain clothes.

From what I've seen (from my sister) is yes normal kids like costumes and such to and say for an outing a child might put on a favorite shirt to look nice or on Halloween day wear there costume but every day to wear it is I think out of the norm. The whole Gynastics outfit and she only went once. Plus she's 8 going on 9 so she's out of the toddler dress up phase. I always thought this phase that was normal would be a toddler or younger than 8 phase. The 10 year old doesn't have this behavior. Which is what made me think of the 8 year old. :-) It's neat even at 16 she wore her soccer stuff all summer. Cool!! !

Even when the humidex tips over 40'celcius (thats real hot) around here, I still don't wear shorts, and I'm 34. It's all a matter of comfort and routine. As long as the clothes aren't stinky or dirty and the kid isn't complaining about comfort (and other parents aren't complaining about the look) then I wouldn't consider it a big problem. I wore joggin pants ALL through high school.

My daughter does. When she was little it was a pair of yellow wellies that she even wore in bed.

I have AS and I have always liked wearing the same clothes. I hate going shopping and getting new clothes because I would rather just wear the ones I have.

I had sweatshirt with a reindeer with christmas lights tangled up in its antlers. I would even wear it when Christmas was months away. My mom let me keep it for years after I out grew it and I only recently either gave it to my neice and nepphews or donated it to the free store. I'm STILL pissed about my mom making me give my outgrown Lion King shirts to my brother's girlfriend's bastard child. I think part of the reason we fought so much was because she was wearing MY shirts. I wish my mom would have let me keep those and I could have had them framed or made some really cool "punk" jackets.
