I took J to the supermarket yesterday, we needed something for dinner and I thought I'd buy a few extra meals.
J and I were walking down one aisle and I was looking at a packet mix for some sort of ethnic beef stew. J turns to me and says" mum why are you looking at that? you know C will have a tantrum and refuse to eat if you buy that!. he complains that the food is always the same, but then wont eat if you cook new stuff"
J is 12 years old C is 21 years old.
I can't help but feel disappointed, but I tell him "hmm your probably right". and I put it back and we move on.
I then ask J " Why do you think C does that?" I think I was thinking (or maybe I wasn't thinking at all ) I would get some analytical aspie answer like "well you see mum C has issues with certain textures, smells etc " I only asked, because J can be very tuned in to all his and his older brothers issues.
I did get an aspie response LOL He said " mum he wont eat it because every time you try something new it's crap! Even worse than the usual crap!'. I must say I did laugh much to the shocked looks on other shoppers that had over heard.

That is, indeed, hilarious, and thank you so much for sharing!! !

I'm 33 years old, and I think AS might have a little to do with my phobia for okra. While this might be perfectly NT away from where I live, it is completely abnormal to dislike okra where I'm from, the DEEEEEEP South! Even my wife thinks something is utterly wrong with me, and I've overcome PART of this by eating gumbo. Only recently did I even know that okra, when boiled, dissolves when crushed. People might look at me funny when it looks like I'm playing with my soup or gumbo, but I say, "Look, take my word for it--I HAVE to do this!! !"

My own kids are picky eaters, but for now I think it's just the age (2 and 3). They otherwise just seem to be "normal," healthy kids. Speaking as someone who has been there, thank you so much for that! Kids, even NT kids, can be awfully honest, can't they? :)

when I was a kid, the only thing that I would eat is canned ravioli. Everything else resulted in me either throwing up or dumping it on the floor under the table!!
Rice and big noodle pasta, without enough sauce, was the worst. something about the texture really made me gag.
And when mom got creative...dinner time was a boxing match of will.
Just give me my canned ravioli...lol
