Hi all

New to this board.

My middle son is a junior in college and failed a class the first time ever in his life and he's not handling it well. Everyone, especially me, is to blame. Had I let him do this, or that, he would have passed the class (I had him attend a closer school as he is a new driver), he's pretty upset and doesn't seem to want, or has difficulty with, putting it all into perspective (Failing a class is not the end of the world).

So what I'm looking for is suggestions on a book(s) on how he can or should look at failures that come along in life. Something from someone with first person experience, on the transition from childlike feelings/behavior to adulthood. I seen a book listed on this sight (childhood to adulthood) but it read a little too clinical. I'm looking more for a book along the lines of a friend or coach.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I read M Scott Peck's; The Road Less Traveled, as a young adult and it had an impact. It's not about handling emotions as much as it's about taking responsibility in one's own life; how to mature into an individual with integrity and capability.

Dr Phil McGraw's book, Life Strategies, is also along the same lines. As you did with the book you mentioned; you might want to browse these to see whether the style will appeal to your son. He may be resistant to reading anything along these lines at all if he blames others for his failures; that's an attractive crutch to dependants.

MountainLaurel- Thanks. Peck's book sounds like just what I'm looking for (Facing lifes problems head on). I read the first few pages on amazon and it was along the lines of what I hope he understands about life ... Problems are a part of life, we can learn from failings and not to let failures defeat us.

Again, thanks
