My 6 year old son was diagnosed about a year ago with Asperger's, he recently had an ADOS (module 3) done to determine if he was eligible for a study. We just found out that his ADOS result was Autistic Disorder. We don't know specific scores, just the result was in the Autistic ranger, not the ASD range.

In your experiences, have your Aspie kids scored ASD or Autistic on an ADOS?

Also, what is the significance of a verbal IQ almost 30 points higher than nonverbal IQ?

I am both a psychologist and an adult HF aspie (folks say I have one foot in and one foot out - lol). Luckily my niche interest is human behavior and cognition.

That said, a 30 point difference in verbal versus performance IQ is not typical of most children. Of more relevance (in my opinion) is whether it is a difference between 70 (probable deficits) and 100 (average), or less concerning 100 (average) and 130 (above average)...

Given his age, you should also be aware that cognitive abilities are still changing, and can vary quite a bit up through age 8-9, so this may be a valid score for current functioning, but may not be a reliable predictor of future performance.

You really need to ask the psych who did the assessment for more qualitative information.

With regard to ADOS, again, this is just one measure. The most critical aspects are to focus on strengths and deficits, as those let you celebrate the great stuff while also figuring out what kinds of skills you need to target for direct instruction, modeling, play, scaffolding, or whatever vocabulary you want to use to say that you are directly teaching skills.,

His IQs were 73 and 100.

They did give us strengths and weaknesses on the ADOS. Some strengths were: talking about something in the past, no repetitive behavior (none seen during the ADOS).

Some weaknesses were: conversation, stereotypical language, social overtures, and others I can't think of right off...

If I remember correctly my daughter scored asd not autistic. I think the asd cutoff was 3 and the autism cutoff was 5 on a range of 0-5. My daughter scored 3s and one 4 but opposite from your son her 4 was in repetitive behaviors.

I was either told or read somewhere that this discrepency was one of the hallmarks of the Asperger's diagnosis. Not the only factor, of course, but a significant one.
