My son has a sunburn on his back. He said he didn't know. He said he "couldn't always feel it." So I did a test. I put my fingers on his back. He couldn't seem to tell me if I had one or two fingers on his back or the back of his legs. His belly didn't seem as bad. Very concerned. Should I be? Is this relatively normal?

Any question and I would take him to a General Practitioner who can order a CT or an MRI and if necessary send him to a Neurologist. A doctor can also do a proper neuro test too. Better to be safe than sorry.

It depends on how far apart the fingers are.
If they are few cm apart, it is normal not to be able to tell them apart, they would be like one finger.
If they are many cm apart, he should be able to tell there are two fingers.
It is normal to have limited feeling in some areas of the body like the back and legs due to the low density of receptors and less brain for processing those areas.
