I have NLD (nonverbal learning disability), and my wife, who is pregnant has aspergers. Does anyone have any idea what the odds are that our son is going to be born with one disability or the other?

I am not aware that it has been quantified, it is simply known that the odds increase, as do the odds for more severe ASD. She should eat healthy, limit exposure to outside chemicals or elements (possible triggers), and do as all potential parents do: love the child they get. There are no guarantees for anyone.

I wish you the best with the grand new adventure of parenthood. Happy time.

There's no guarantee that even two Aspergians will produce an Aspergian child.

Probably, most of the time, two neurotypical parents are the ones who produce a kid on the spectrum.

I'm part of a Facebook support group and pretty much every adult woman with aspergers/autism has one or more children with it. Most are in their 30s-40s and were diagnosed after having kids. Parents with autism aren't really well-studied, but I'd say the chance is at least 50% by my own observations. Scares me honestly.
