We have an 10 year old child with Aspergsers, who was diagnosed about two years ago.

Since figuring out what made him different, my wife has been reading everything she can and working with him - and the results have been fantastic. Gone his most of his tension and anxiety, he is slipping better, much more outgoing and willing to try new things like roller coasters etc. I have been encouraging her to share what she has learned, and finally convinced her to write a blog on the subject.

You can see this at http://asdhelp.wordpress.com/

I posted it in my blog section here but...it didn't show up in the blogs area. Not quite sure why.

I know she would love to get some thoughts and comments from people on WrongPlanet - I would say honest viewpoints but I know from my own son that that is the only option! :)

Thanks!

Thank you. I will pass along your thanks to my wife, who is the real brains behind all of this.

She is planning on putting out about one blog entry per week, so feel free to subscribe :D

Thanks Caitlin.

Joanne received your comment and was very appreciative. I'm a little short on time now, but will definitely make a point to check out your blog tonight.

Thanks :)

Could you let her know, if she received my comment more than once, it's because there's something funky going on with my computer and it's not showing me when any of my comments post to any of the sites or blogs I follow - extremely annoying as I can't tell whether my comment has actually 'stuck' or not. Please apologize if she received a bunch of identical comments from me :)

She did get two - but they both went into the spam bucket, so she was assuming you became concerned when you didn't see it show up.

I had a look at the blog today. Very nice. I will try to read more over the weekend.

Thanks! :D

Caitlin

Not sure if you subscribed but my wife put another post out last night.

She's actually been getting a lot of hits on the site, and a lot of positive comments - which is very gratifying for me as I have been telling her she should do this for a while.

Excellent! I did sign up to follow so I'll check her latest post. For me, blogging is an important part of therapy, community, and frankly, keeping my sanity!

I just posted my latest article - A+ for the Teacher, which discusses how we incorporated Greg's classmates into his 'team' of support.
Happy reading!

Kuddos Joanne! I loved your story about how the kids in G's class were so kind to him after they understood what was going on. Almost cried thinking about my own little guy in 1st grade. You've really made me re-think my own position on that and I just might enlist his teacher to do the same thing.

Thanks,

My latest post is about how to ease the Back-to-School anxieties. Greg starts school tomorrow, so wish us luck!

Here's my most recent post, which discusses how we used a Joke-of-the-Day to help my son expand his literal mind and improve his social skills.

I'd be happy to share my file of jokes, if anyone would like to try a similar program themselves.

I shall be visiting later on tomorrow as I work today. We also have a young boy with Asperger's (9 yrs. old).
Both my wife and I have made blogs on him...mine in English...hers in Japanese. We go over many of the things that have greatly helped him. I'll comment again once I have read your wife's blog. I am glad to hear that your son has also greatly improved. Mine was diagnosed at 3 yrs. old as Autistic.....many years later we discovered he is really an Aspie.
