I don't know why they give Clonodine to children. I know an adult who ended up in ER within days after trying it (heart problems)

I think my dad is on that for blood pressure--he's in his 70's! Guinnea pigs, I'm telling you!

I would ask the question--long term studies? No? Not for my son then.

I voted none. I am really hoping to keep drugs out of the picture. If seizures become an issue then I will reconsider but, I think my daughter is too young for drugs.

Clonidine is not just for BP - It's a anti-anxiety med too.

hard to take the survey because both hubby and son take meds....have tried different meds too....so here's the list: hubby has taken prozac, wellbutrin, clonadine, clonazepam, alprozolam, and gabatrol.......son has tried: prozac, wellbutrin, paxil, seroquel, and depakote

what works for hubby is combination of prozac, wellbutrin, clonazepam, and alprozolam~some are prn's ( taken only when anxiety levels are incredibly elevated), some are for sleep issues

what works for son is combination of prozac, wellbutrin, and seroquel

one doc told us that very often it's found that what works for one family member works for multiple family members......actually, hubby , son and I are all taking different variations/doses of wellbutrin. i think we should get some sort of group discount!

forgot to say what didn't work.....depakote was HORRIBLE. gabatrol didn't do anything....paxil didn't do enough. ...clonadine was too sedating.

My son has been on fluvoxamine (Luvox) for almost two years for anxiety. It worked well, so it has been the only med we've ever tried.

Any other new & exciting magic potions?

Depecote seems to be failing this morning.

Alex yelled at everyone this morning & gave me a bad headache.

My son is currently taking Adderall, but just today (after a month of this medication) we are finding that he is saying weird things in the last period of his class, that he's obviously coming down off the medication at that time period (2-3:00 p.m.) and is very frustrated, tired, and over-emotional at that time of the day.

He is also eating lunch with less people -- I heard today that sometimes he is eating lunch by himself. This is the part that REALLY is bothering me. This coincides with the time period that he has been taking adderall. Up until now, he's been eating lunch with a big group of boys.

So I am taking him OFF the Adderall. My husband and I are going back and forth about the need for extended release Adderall (Adderall XR), but even with the regular Adderall, it hasn't helped his paying attention in class, which is why we were having him take it in the first place. Therefore, I'm thinking he would just do better with no meds at all.

Very, VERY frustrated.

Kris

Isn't risperdal being used now for aggression and self-injuious behaviors? Maybe you shoud add that to your poll.

best to check with your doc before discontinuing any drug....some are not the types that can just be discontinued at a moments notice.

They put me on Adderall because they thought I had ADD. After I got myself off of the prescription, my body felt like it had been it by a truck. I slept and slept and almost changed my mind about getting off the adderall. After some time, my body started to function back to normal. It was the worse withdrawl.

The way we've been doing the adderall is only on school days -- weekends or vacations are off-med. So I don't think his withdrawal is going to be too bad and it actually may be a big improvement.

Let's hope, anyway, for his sake. Poor kid has had enough trouble this week. . .

schleppenheimer~ finding the right meds is almost always quite an adventure. we were determined to find the right combination of meds for our son because of his depression and suicidal ideation.....how intensely you search for the right med should really be dependent upon how severe your child's symptoms are.......i'd hate for you to feel that all meds are bad based on your kid's bad reaction to adderall. it's possible there might be something else out there that works better.....again, up to you based on the severity of symptoms....good luck
