Here is the link to this week's post: The Hidden Curriculum.
http://asdhelp.wordpress.com/2010/09/21 ... urriculum/
There are thousands of unwritten social rules that govern our daily lives and help society interact more smoothly. When these rules are broken - people notice...

Here are some of the ways that we've been directly teaching the hidden curriculum to our son.

Tremendously well written articles. Professional layout, content and feel. I was very pleased with the Blog...the reading was easy...made pleasurable by the pacing and the photos in support of the article. Well done!

Great blog. I welcome you to share your blog with Asperger's Parent Support for all to read also. This goes for anyone else reading this too. Please post it in the blogs section!

There are unwritten social rules governing just about every interaction we have on a daily basis. And when a rule is broken, people notice. Here is the link to my latest blog discussing this topic:

Enjoy!

If we could 'fix' autism - would we? Here is an article discussing just that possibility...

MY SON IS 18 YR.OLD NOW AND I WISH THAT I WOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS FOR MY SON GROWING UP. HE WAS DIAGNOSED ONLY WITH ADHD. I HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF ASPERGERS. HE HAS ENDURED SO MUCH PAIN, STRUGGLE, BULLYING, AND I'M SAD TO SAY DEVELOPED A VERY LOW (IF NON EXISTENT AT TIMES) SELF ESTEEM. HE HAS BEEN SEEING A COUNSELOR, AND A PSYCHIATRIST FOR A LONG TIME. ASPERGERS HAS ONLY BEEN A RECENT DISCOVERY FOR US. I ALWAYS KNEW THAT HE HAD TO HAVE MORE THAN SIMPLY ADHD, SINCE MEDICATION, AND YEARS OF COUNSELING DIDN'T HELP HIM WITH HIS BIGGEST ISSUES: SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE, ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, ODD BEHAVIOR (THAT HE FOR THE MOST PART DID NOT GROW OUT OF), ETC. I ONLY HOPE TO FIND HIM THE HELP HE NEEDS, AND PRAY THAT IT ISN'T TOO LATE TO BEGIN REPAIRING SOME OF THE HURT THAT HE EXPERIENCED. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COMFORTING TO KNOW WHAT IT WAS THAT WAS MAKING IT SO HARD FOR HIM ALL ALONG. EVEN THOUGH I KNOW IT WON'T HELP TO FEEL GUILTY (I DO). I SIMPLY HAD NO IDEA. THE PROFESSIONALS THAT I TOOK HIM TO DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE EITHER. [quote] “If you don't know where you are going, any road will get you there.”

Here is the link to my latest blog article - Part II of the Hidden Curriculum. How Rude! discusses how critical it is to teach all kids (but especially those on the spectrum) those critical, unwritten rules of social interaction. A few tips are included...

http://asdhelp.wordpress.com/2010/10/05/how-rude/

Good luck!

Here is the link to my latest post "On His Own?". This was a very emotional article for me to write, because it talks about the angst of planning for your child's future.
Maybe it will be helpful to some of you who are certainly going through similar things...
