Potty Training HELP!! !!
I found this website yesterday. http://sam26847.tripod.com/id23.html It is a great Social Story on using the potty. It is a little graphic (poop made from a brownie mix hahaha) but our son loved it and actually asked if they had one for going wee!? hahaha He did use the toilet this morning for wee and poop though so I will call it progress and thought I would share the site with you!
My 3 and a half year old is in the process of toilet training. He's got peeing in the toilet down very well, but won't poo in the toilet (he gets very nervous). One of the the things we did to encourage him to use the toilet was to make it a very comfortable and attractive place for him to be. Together we put stickers on the wall of things he likes (in his case butterflies and Mickey mouse), have a book he likes in the bathroom, which only gets used when he's on the toilet. I also made sure the light wasn't too bright or too dim. Adding things that he feels personally attached to may help. Another tip is to have a sticker in the toilet bowel and (if you're ok with it) have his father, or some other male role model demonstrate aiming at the sticker.
If anyone out there could offer some help, I would be eternally grateful...
We have a 4 year old Aspie son who is great at peeing in the toilet, however, he is scared to death of the toilet. He knows when he needs to go, asks for us to put a diaper on him, goes into the bathroom (he needs his privacy), does his business, comes out and asks for us to take his diaper off and dispose of the poop.
We have tried just sitting on the toilet (for multiple types of rewards - matchbox cars, lollipops, stickers) to no avail. If we refuse a diaper he has a severe meltdown. We have explained that everybody poops on the toilet and he knows that's what we do, but he just refuses.
He has no problem seeing the poops go into the toilet and saying "bye-bye poops" as he flushes them - so not a sensory issue with the noise (he actually likes to flush the toilet - repeatedly).
Does anyone have experiences and tips they could offer that might get us diaper free?
Have you tried telling him that we are getting rid of the diapers for good, and you will have to wear underpants. If he has an accident, clean it up. He may hate going in his underwear more than going in the toilet. Once i got rid the pull ups my daughter did great.

Just keep faith you will get there. Try the social story I posted the link to. That seemed to help a tremendous amount with our son also. Helped us get over the hump.

Don't yell at him and scold him, every time that he has an accident. My mum made that mistake with me. I was afraid of my own poop for a while, and I wouldn't poop unless it was dark outside, because I thought poop was evil. I also have other issues that bring back memories. The fact that I had to start wearing Depends at the age of 32 didn't help and it drove a wedge between my mum and I, for a year.

My son has Aspergers and is 8 years old - he did the same thing (uncanny really - I thought he was the only one!). He was terrified of the toilet and had perfect control over pooping. He actually would hold it in, rather than sit on a toilet!
What I did with my son was show him first - that the toilet is fun. He was afraid of being sucked down the toilet - so I literally stepped into the toilet and let him flush - so he could see it was impossible to be flushed down or fall in. He thought this was GREAT FUN and wanted to try. I let him try and we spent a week or so, making standing in the toilet and flushing a fun activity. Then I instigated the following steps (repeat each step for 2 weeks before moving on the the next step - and yes, you heard me right TWO WEEKS - it takes at least 2 weeks to get over the very SMALL fear he will have to face with each step):
1. Everytime he needs to go poop, put the pull-up diaper on and the "rule" is he must be in the bathroom when he is pooping.
2. Everytime he needs to go poop, put the pull-up diaper on and the "rule" is he must be touching the toilet when he is pooping.
3. Everytime he needs to go poop, put the pull-up diaper on and the "rule" is he must be sitting on the toilet lid when he is pooping.
4. Everytime he needs to go poop, put the pull-up diaper on and the "rule" is he must be sitting on the toilet seat when he is pooping.
5. Everytime he needs to go poop, put the pull-up diaper on and the "rule" is he must be sitting on the toilet seat the the sides of the diaper open (or cut) when he is pooping. (So he's actually holding the diaper on - the diaper isn't holding itself on.)
6. Everytime he needs to go poop, put the pull-up diaper on and the "rule" is he must holding the diaper only on the front when he is pooping.
**At about step 5 or six - he voluntarily gave up the diaper.
All my mom's friends were jealous of her because it only took three days to get me potty trained when I was little. She said she explained it to me using my toys I did it without any problems. I was having my toys go potty before I started so it was like s dress rehersal for it. My other two brothers took only week to figure it out using the same method. One funny story my mom told me was when I was little she was playing with me with fisher price toys. I had a man figure and she put a little toilet in front of it and asked me how does a good boy use the potty? I showed her by quickly pulling down the front of my pants and peeing in the little toilet. We were in the living room I still remember her screaming no and my father laughing his ass off.
