blondeambition, I understood what you meant. I have OCD and have had depression and anxiety in the past, and I take no issue with the words mental health. I just don't think it's a mental health issue at all. Perhaps behavioral, perhaps standard little-boy, perhaps autism... just not MH.

Okay. I'm glad that you didn't take offense.

Yelling @ him guarantees a meltdown, so that's a no-go. We talked about it & hopefully it will stop.

Yeah you have to find some way to make yourpoint clear that it is an absolute rule with no exceptions.

Thats not always a good idea with ASD kids Aspie48. My Autie is extremely sensitive and if I yelled at her about her little finger smears on the wall she may end up back in diapers just from the stress of it. She starts saying shes sorry like shes killed someone and sobbing for spilling a drop of water and we have never yelled at her......the only time someone yelled at her was her grandfather because she broke a glass on accident. We think that is why she is like this and that was a year ago so you understand what I mean by sensitive?

Don't take aspie48's bait. He just comes here once in a while to try and throw gas on a fire.

I didn't figure you would, just letting people know that it is a waste of their time to respond to his comments, he's just trying to get a rise out of someone.

But no one asked what your dad would do. They asked what is an effective way to deal with a behavior of an autistic child. So, two completely different things, apparently.

Well what my dad would do is relevant because its parenting. I wasn't suggesting to be particularly cruel to the kid just get the point across that it's not ok that's all.

yeah my big brother had this kind of problem when he was a kid I would just be patient, don't get angry, it's probably embarrassing for him to begin with.

Ugh. This behavior has gone on for some time now. It's not a daily thing, but often enough that there's constantly a smear somewhere. My 7 year old son uses the restroom & leaves small poo smears on my walls. I've asked why he did it in the past & he said he didn't know. I've made him clean it up & he continues to do it! How do I make this stop & why is he doing it?

It's not a lot, but even a little is too much. I believe it's on his finger from wiping. The sink is right next to the toilet! Why not wash or use tissue or hand sanitizer even?!

I've certainly never had this problem. The worst I've ever done was attempt to kill a mosquito on the ceiling with globs of wet toilet paper that I wetted in the sink. Mother was not pleased.

If you think this is an issue with the matter getting on his hands, and his failure to take the most appropriate rout and wash it off, then I would suggest you buy disposable gloves such that he can put them on to take care of his business and remove them and throw them in the trash can when done.

This eliminate the need to wash his hands. If he is getting fecal matter on his hand and just wiping it off, enough germs and contaminants remain such that he risks becoming ill or making someone else ill.

I think that a good way to take care of this would be to have some special wipes and hand sanitizer in colours that your son likes that he can use. For each week that he remembers to use those products every time he goes poo, you can take him to a favourite restaurant or watch a favourite movie with him with pop if you allow that and some popcorn. :)
