HI I just want to join in just to say that... mama to grace... your daughter sounds like my son right now at this stage.... I don't know what happened to him after turning 7 y.o. last december 2011..But his teachers are complaining frequently that he cries a lot...and he don't do his school work anymore... I don't know what's happening at school or is it related to his age..he turned 7 and he is quite reasonable to himself that he is not stupid to do things he already know...or redundant... or maybe for him.. its stupid...

or maybe the teachers are bulking up the work with limited time for him...I believe my son writes slow...so I guess he'd rather not stress himself with that at all...he'll just draw instead..

and at home..it's getting hard to get him to study now...

I sometime think that this meltdowns came with his age...turning 7...he's becoming reasonable to himself I guess..

I'm reading on the advice on this thread...its giving me ideas and helps me understand what's happening to my son now...

[quote="OddDuckNash99room. We Aspies cannot control how we react. Our emotions are intense and instantaneous. My mother often says that it's like I have a "switch" that makes me go from even-keeled to meltdown in seconds, and it really does feel like that inside. There's no warning.[/quote]

No doubt as I can be the same way as well as dh. Dd is a handful at times, but thankfully she has them much less then she did before she started school. She had one recently to which I ended up calling some relatives for help and they kept her for awhile so she calmed down and I could care for ds. IMO kids are pushed too hard with math being an a subject the teacher needs to take slower so a solid foundation is built. But then again I am biased as I have unofficiial dyscalculia myself.

Set up a reward system. You can also just let her enjoy herself like we were meant to after 8 hours indoors...

I'm so thankful for this thread (and this website). The meltdowns in our house are exhausting.
