Aspie mom with aspie son,anybody else know how I feel?

Thanks Pandora, I will certainly look into what you have suggested - for a first timer to this meds business, it is quite daunting and my poor son is terrified - I'm going to have some major problems with him as the day draws nearer when we have the appointment with the paediatrician! He is talking of it like a death, that this pill will have control over him - it is so much for a mother to take, and I wish I can take the bloody thing with him so that he will feel more at ease, that he isn't alone. I have read about one product, think it was called Wellbutrin or something like that, that has a secondary effect of weight loss, now that would be handy to me!!

Snapdragon, I'm an aspie daughter (found out in my 30s) of an aspie father (who found out in his 70s) and I have an aspie son (7 years, doesn't yet know). I have the most amazing bond with my father even now, we speak every night for 20 mins on the phone. I have a great relationship with my son, I love him to bits and I know he'll be able to achieve whatever he chooses later in life despite having a hard time learning all the life strategies up to now. The relationship has got better with age. We can wind each-other up a treat as well though, because we have the same tenacious, stubborn tendancies, but we are able to talk about things when we've calmed down.

Have hope and don't be afraid to stand up for him when school comes around - if it takes being a pushy parent to get your kid's needs met, so be it. The best thing I ever did was get my boy statemented - at least he gets full time support at school - I'm sure he'd not have stayed in a mainstream setting without it (which is right for his situation).

Being an aspie parent means that you have a good understanding of how the kid feels - it's got to help, surely? Good luck!
