The problem is that bullying is usually a system of behavior that all kids engage in; there aren't clear-cut "bullies" and "victims." Even when DS was a victim (and might now be a victim) of bullying, his own behavior was a part of the problem - in his case, this was due to his difficulties with social communication that the school was supposed to be helping him with. In other words, while it didn't excuse the behavior of the children who were tormeting him, it also couldn't be said that he wasn't often mean himself.

Then there's the additional problem of who's lying and who's not...

It's enough to drive one mad, isn't it?

Perhaps this is where smaller class size would come in handy 8)

I know adolescence is a rough time, but it does seem like it is a lot rougher than I was there. Maybe that is just an old person looking back though.

I had to end ongoing physical abuse with my own two fists when I was a mere slip of a girl when "telling" wasn't working. At the very least, I can say this about the teacher and principal - they finally did understand the situation. Too late, but they were able to comprehend self defense. Nowadays, it wouldn't matter if a girl was a straight-A student and had done everything she could do before resorting to fisticuffs. That girl would land straight in juvie.

I've been appalled by the stories coming out of my old alma mater. My generation had some pretty hair-raising stuff, but not like today.
