Makes me think of this:

When he comes home I'm taking him out to lunch at the Chinese place here in town. And I'm gonna show them his back and tell them I want that. Szechuan style.

Now, how could anybody have a problem with that ?
It's a nice story of a kindly mother taking her son out for a treat ; in order to cheer him up, because he's upset by how much of a pillock he is. It might help him to see that it's not all bad... because his daft tattoo could be useful as a communication aid !

funny, yes, but it's a fine line between teasing and abuse. if he's upset, maybe it's time to lay off. he made a mistake. he shouldn't have to pay for it forever beyond what's inevitable. he'll appreciate your discretion.

He got "bean curd" tattoed on his back, in a big letter. YES he should be teased. Relentlessly. A tat is forever. So is the sh** you get from one.

:-) Absolutely !

He's a big boy, and I'm sure it will encourage him to be more prudent in the future instead of doing something else equally as idiotic without thinking it through first.

:-D If he gets fed up of being called 'Bean curd', then he can always go with my helpful cover up suggestion.
 LOL ! !! !

OK my son's baby mama, she was in love with this one firend of theirs about 5 years ago and got his name tattooed on her forearm. He dumped her right after, because it was weird to get his name on her. She just NOW got that covered. she has sleeves so it's all good, but still. I will still rag her TO THIS DAY, as does EVERYBODY ELSE about that. A bad tat is something that doesn't go away, even if you get it covered. People remember. It will haunt you till your dying breath.

:-) How on earth did he get the notion that "Tofu" means "Tiger" in the first place ?
The mind just boggles.....

If it were my son then I'd try behaving as though he always meant to get Tofu tattooed on him in the first place (I mean look how much consideration he put into it before getting one !) ... LOL ! !!

:-D Maybe he could get this tattoo on his arm or front - in order to make it look like he got the first one on purpose.
