lookin for others
Hi stacey,
You sound like a great mom. I know it is hard, I know in my heart my son had aspergers at 4 as well. The doctors just didnt pick up on it. It wasn't until his preschool check the one before he attends kindergarten, the health nurse could not get him to co-operate or make eye contact, she said he was going to have learning difficulties, she was right. In kindergarten it did'nt take long for the teacher to notice his problems as well, he wasn't interacting with the other kids, he wouldn't sit in his seat and complete his work, he had outbursts in class, he was very defiant and argumentative with any one in authority. Anyway he was diagnosed with Add, Then Adhd, Odd and finally 7 months ago Aspergers. I was so relieved to finally find out what was really going on and that he could get the services he needed. Since then he is doung so much better in school, before the diagnosis they were treating him as an unruly bad kid. It wasn't right cause i knew something was wrong and that a lot of his behaviors he could not help and for that he was punished. Looking back i wish i would have stepped up more and insisted more testing be done but i didn't know what i was dealing with up until his diagnosis i had no clue as to what aspergers was. Now i have done research and i know more and I'm handling things a lot better.Hope this helps, Take care and do the best you can thats all we can do.
