I have no idea how A.B.A would be used for social skills other than bribing them to make the attempt, and bribing them for certain successful tasks.
If I were you I would find out exactly what the plan is and see if you think it makes sense for your child.
One wouldn't go to a urologist, b/c he was in town, if one needed an allergist; and I don't think seeing an ABA b/c she is in town would be smart to do, if that is not what your child needs. Spend the money on what is likely to help.
I second/third the suggestions for speech.
Speech was the most effective therapy we had, when we had it with a good one. It was for pragmatics and social skills. They routinely have speech in the schools even in podunk towns, so you can probably find one who is not too far.
