TV and movies are basically how we learn how to speak in real life without realizing it might sound weird.
I'm not as extreme as some other aspies, but it's probably why I sound more "American" than speaking with a quaint Irish or Scottish type accent, that is difficult for outsiders to understand, like other people living in Nova Scotia supposedly do.

Sometimes I would pick up words and phrases in books that aren't commonly used or even known as a teenager and when I said them in real life people would either laugh hysterically or look at me like there's something gross on my face and they're afraid to tell me. Teachers couldn't figure out how someone with my vocabulary was doing so poorly in junior high. :duh:

Sometimes I have trouble saying how I feel about something because I don't know the right words. And then I hear someone else, usually in a TV show, say words that matched how I felt perfectly, and then I can use them to tell others. And of course it's easier to say stuff in typing or typing because I can actually think about what to say I don't have to worry about getting interrupted, or people talking over me, or just ignoring me.
