Night Waking/Inconsolable Crying
I sometimes have these experiences where I am aware enough to know I am slipping into a nightmare...yet my body is asleep enough that I cannot move unless I really really really foce myself in attempts to move and vocalize. I could be straining with all my might and manage to move only a twitch of a finger, trying to scream and only make a crackling sound in my throat. If I don't fight with everything I've got, the nightmare wins and sleep takes over. It's awful. I hate that. What you said reminded me of those.
I used to wake in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, usually afraid and occasionally downright terrified of some slight little noise (rain, wind, etc.) for imagining it was something horrible (like something scary tearing through my bedroom wall). I had some horrible and very vivid thoughts when awakened in the night.
