Sometimes, it's not a lie. It's the kids version of reality. There is always a great deal of insight to be had by listening very carefully to "lies."

I mean, you can't let the kid be "assaultive," but you can listen very carefully, and sometimes the kid is telling the truth as he or she sees it. That is very instructive.

Good luck

With our 17 yr old aspie girl we have learned not to try to interact with her during an outburst. Waiting for her to calm down in her room, and then talk to her in a nonacusing way usually helps. It may take several tries thru out the day.

As a mother of 5, I agree its not always necessary to hash out out every denial. and get some sort of confession or remorse. Good grief- theres not enough time in the day! All kids do it. Lying about hygiene is so common. We just ignore the fussing and send the kid back to get the job done.

Someone said with aspie kids its ' emotional management ' that works, rather than 'behavioral management'. Sooo true !

Explaining how 'friendly kids' behave in school may help. Sounds like the little guy has picked up on the unfortunate reality that bad behavior gets attention. Its truly amazing how these kids soak up others actions like a sponge.

Definately keep a close eye on what happens at school. And dont assume the school has good insight on your sons condition.

Very sensible advice - the main thing is you want "bad" behaviour to stop. Kids under 7 don't usually understand completely the difference between "lying" and "wishful thinking" and if they also have ASD, they might not understand till a much older age still.

All too often, the teachers only notice one child misbehaving when in fact, others have done things to stir them up.
