Way to go Aurea!

Your son is lucky to have you to advocate for him!

I am sorry to hear you have so much frustration! I think the milder cases, or cases with children who withdraw instead of acting out, are easy for busy teachers to miss. But knowing is such an important key - I am glad that now at least you know. Are you comfortable that this time the doctor has called it correctly?

I am glad you son is attending a social skills group and enjoying it. My son has a lunch bunch at school and it has been very important for him.

I realize that you don't want to switch schools unless you have to, but there is only so long I would hit my head against the wall, so to speak, if I was you. In my experience, an environment is either sensitive to spectrum issues, or it is not. And the sooner you can get a child out of an inappropriate environment and into one that will work well, the better. I have always, and always will, regret not moving my son from his preschool when I had the chance. I realize that preschool is a different world, but, still, I learned that no matter how hard you try to work the system, some systems can't be adapted, and the best solution is to move.

I wish you and your son the best of luck.

I'm glad everything is ok now. I can't even imagine you or your son going through this. My son has gone to the sm school since kinder in the fifth grade he got diagnosed with AS. Way before this I knew my son was different and made sure that his teachers accomodated him with everything that he needed to be happy at school. They never gave me any trouble. when he was diagnosed officially it was like "oh now we get it" we all took a huge sigh. He wasn't always happy, there was a lot of bullying and I made sure that the teacher knew of every little incident. I had several conferences with the parents of some of the bullies and the principle that I think the parents of these kids were sick of me. Well it worked cause i'm sure they were telling their kids to leave mine alone just so that they wouldn't have to hear me anymore. I'm so happy with my sons school, I only wish he could go here all the way to highschool. Well at least I have 2 more years then I have to start all over again. Hope things get so much better now that hid doctors are involved. Best of luck to you and your son.
