My son was misdiagnosed with bipolar initially, and took just about everything imaginable. I look back at all the medications I gave him, and it makes me feel sick. He tried Lithium, Depakote, Abilify, Buspar, Adderall, Staterra, Ritalin, Concerta, and Cogentin (for side effects). I honestly feel like none of them helped. They appeared to initially, then the behavior would get worse and we just kept adding things..It's a slipery slope. He is currently not taking anything and we are having to consider the use of an antidepressant. That is very scary to me, but so is depression and it's consequences. I would just use a word of caution and say, if you haven't given behavior modification a real try - I would try that first.
