I definitely prefer "autistic". Is it not okay to say neurotypical, now it has to be "person with neurotypicality"? It's all grammar anyway. I'm sick of the PC police.

Wow, I find this all so interesting. As a mom I don't like the term is Autistic for my son, I say has Autism since to me I just feel Autism it not EVERYTHING he is, I feel people hear the label and that is all they see, while I find that he has so much more to offer than what people think Autism is. Ugh! I feel like I am not getting my point across. Does anyone get what I am saying? I guess it's just a personal decision.

To me, my daughter is autistic because she reacts to everything through an autistic brain. She is a clever artist and likes to sing and loves to make us laugh but it's all filtered through an autistic brain. She has seizures, too. I don't call her Seziere Girl because most of her life has nothing to do with seizures. She percieves life through an autistic lense so I can't separate her autistic identity from her. I wouldn't know how.

How do you separate your child's identity from your child's autism?

In a more general sense, I think you should just call people what they want to be called. My best friend prefers to be called lesbian rather than gay whenever possible. Fine. No skin off of my nose.

I guess when he is older, I will ask him. In the meantime this thread has been great. Thanks!
