I just put something together in my head. My baby's room is at the top of our wooden stairs. When I put him in his crib for a nap, he usually fusses a little, the falls asleep, as long as he is tired enough. When I am wearing my shoes and I go downstairs, he really flips out about being left. But when I am wearing socks and go downstairs, he only whines a little as he watches me go, then falls asleep. I think he has way more anxiety about hearing me leave him than seeing me leave him. Wierd huh? So now if I am wearing shoes, I slip them off to go down the stairs, then put them on again.

He is also a light sleeper. Any little noise wakes him up. I try to never go into his room while he is sleeping. If anyone remembers my daycare thread, he also has trouble sleeping at the babysitter, which I think is contributing some to his crabby-ness there. The babysitter said that once she let him sleep in her finished basement and he slept for two hours, but she is not totally comfortable leaving him down there because she can't hear him. So Monday I am going to bring our baby monitor to her house so she can let him sleep in the basement. I never use our baby monitor anyway, because our house is tiny and I can hear anything anywhere.

Does anyone else have a sound sensitive baby? Any stories or advice to share?

I want to congratulate you on figuring this out. Knowledge is power! Good luck.

Thanks, DW! I feel good about figuring this out too. And now that I'm looking for his reactions to sound, I have seen it confirmed several times that he is more oriented to sound than other senses. In both good and bad ways. Like he jumps when the dog barks, but he is drawn to the sound of splashing water.

Also since the babysitter has been putting him in the basement for naps, he is sleeping a lot better there and seems to be getting used to it and crying much less for her. YAY! :D

As a teenager i was once woken up by a beatle crawling on a screen in my room. I was shocked to discover that was the cause of the "great" noise that was making it impossible for me to sleep.

Interesting typo there. Which Beatle? No wonder he woke you up.

Its not necessarily a typo. I could have been referring to a vampire beatle. though checking some photos it was actually a hairy fungus beetle (ah the fun of living on a farm)

LOL please check spelling of beatle vs. beetle.

I did. It is correct to say Vampire beatle. It is however incorrect to say hairy fungus beatle

OK, the Beatles were a rock and roll band from the '60s.

Beetles are bugs.

bEAtles vs. bEEtles

Your making it clear you don't a thing about vampire beatles. I would have thought my last post would have cleared that misperception up on your mind. It is acceptable to spell vampire beatle with an A, even though it is not acceptable to do that with other beetles
