Nice too see your son is like me, suspicious and distrustful of other people...

i had two mishaps with going home...

first when i was about 7 i went home with a friend (that my mother didn't know) and never called my mother, until my friend's mom asked if i was staying for dinner (at about 7)

then when i was about 9 i decided to walk home instead of ride the bus (in a city) it took me about 3 hours so it must have been a fairly long distance. but i had my bus route memorized.

OMG! I would have been livid. I have lost all faith in public schools anyway.
My son is almost 13 and 4 grade levels behind....I started homeschooling this year, and I couldn't be happier. At least I know that my son won't be "lost" by the school.

Is that an inner city school he attended by any chance? I know around here if a child is endangered of failing a second time they get put in a special program, and if they do fail a second time, they get sent to a special school that operates year round with the intention of getting the kids back up to their original grade level - most get there in just two years or less

OMG!! You must have been so upset!! ! Doesn't someone make sure the children get on the right bus?! !??
Glad he's ok! Although I must say - smart young man not going with someone he doesn't recognize!!

I don't know what's worse reading about Vladi or all the additional tales of "yeah, that happened to me too!"

That's just so awful how many people get left on the bus or not put on the bus. All the schools my son has attended make sure the buses are met with aides that assist the students. We discontinued the bus service in CA because they were incompetent. But here in Tucson, he's one of 2 or 3 students and there are the same aides every day, even if the driver is different. So, Pop doesn't have issues like that.

We have had the school mark him absent when we dropped him off. So, getting a call at 11am (when he's been there 3 hours) asking where he is is very unnerving!! !

Is there another student that could act as a buddy for him, waiting for the bus with him and letting him know that a bus with a different driver is still the right bus? I can't believe they just lost your kid like that!

I may have posted this already, so stop me if you've heard it before.

One day in third grade I was cutting up with someone at lunch a lot more than usual. The teacher had me grab my tray and took me to an empty table away from everyone. She told me to stay there until she told me I could leave. Guess what? When she lined up the class to leave the lunchroom she didn't tell me I could leave. My classmates are giggling about me sitting there and she still doesn't get it. I was confused, so I stayed put until a class came in that was scheduled for that table. When I walked in the classroom, she was shocked and demanded to know where I'd been, didn't I know I was supposed to join the class, etc. Every answer from me was that she didn't tell me I could leave, so I didn't.

I wasn't punished, but she sure looked at me funny for the rest of the day.

My 7 year old has been lost at school TWICE! Once was when he was in preschool and the other was this year. When he was in preschool they were all lined up and walking to where the buses were and my son was last in line and he of course stopped to look at something on one of the walls and then the group got ahead of him and then the older kids came out. None of the aides missed him!! !! ! I was at home waiting for his bus (which I just thought was late!) when the school called him. Bless his little 4 year old heart, he stood still and stayed right where he was. One of the teachers later heard him crying and found him in the hallway. I still don't know what happened this year, I pick him up from school now but for some reason he never made it to the car rider line and no one could find him for 15 minutes!! ! They called his name on the intercom--which he of course ignored! and eventually someone saw him walking in a hallway. I am guessing he got turned around was lost and trying to figure out where he was!
