Aspie Teens: Are they more immature?
I am similar to your son. I'm 17 years old, and am not interested in girls. I realized when i was 16 that my parents were troubled by this. My mother has asked me if I was gay, and they both didn't understand why I wasn't interested. The main reason of which is there a so many things more interesting. I don't like it when people make comments about or in relation to myself (I never liked new cloths or haircuts because of this), and I realized that my parents would make comments about such actions, so I decided it would be a bad idea to act in a way that would give them the opportunity to make comments. I didn't really feel a real urge to either. Sometimes people ask me if I am interested in a specific girl, or they see me looking at a girl, and I'll look embarrassed. I look embarrassed because I am in reality not interested (or if it is from visual que, it is usually because I am studdying them), and I dislike them getting the wrong impression or making comment.
Eventually my mother went to a seminar on Aspergers, and the speaker said that it is not uncommon for males with Aspergers to not become interested in females until they are within their twenties.
This is not immaturity, this is difference. Also in my own opinions the rest of your sons behaviors are fairly mature.
Excuse any grammatical/lexical errors, I am typing this on an iDevice and I it's autocorrect messes me up.
