Another year, a new start. My son has the same teacher as last year. I'm not sure whether that's good or not. She understands our son, and tries her best, but I can't help feeling it might be better if he could start with someone new.

Before the end of last term we were having real problems at school. However, our son has been playing with an older boy over the holidays (our son is 6, older boy is nearly 11) who is showing him how to follow game rules properly, and how to behave, and it has really helped. We've had a few eureka moments over the holidays with reading/writing so hopefully that will help with him in class. He is slowly understanding that everywhere there are unwritten rules. It's tough.

I am nervous, but also trying to be optimistic. I say all this, and no doubt in a week or so I'll be posting this site cos I'm tearing my hair out!

Collywobble, you are so lucky to have this older boy that is helping your son with how to play and how to behave. I have often thought that would be really beneficial.

I hope that the school year goes well for your son.

DD is absolutely thrilled that it's about to start. Summer's are terribly boring for her because there is only one child in the immediate area whom she can associate with, even if he is three years younger. Both of us work and she is left to her own devices (with frequent phone calls during the day). Most of the time she is on the Internet and into her Japanese stuff, but even that gets boring after a time.

The thing I worry about is that the school is planning to drop her from the IEP program this year, because they have gone as far as they can with her socially on their end, so this year may be interesting.

Well, we are 3 days into the school year and it's going better than I expected. My son's teacher says that his outbursts are already starting to get shorter in length and he really enjoys learning new things. He is in a class with one teacher, 2 aides, and 5 children (all on the spectrum). My son talks very postiviely about school and he seems to be getting through the six-hour day just fine (I was really worried about that.)

So far, much better than preschool. We'll see if it stays that way!
