When your six year old asks why women weren't allowed to act in Shakespeare's day.

When the her class classmates are able to tell their parents how chlorophyl causes leave to change color in autumn, because your kindergartener "took over" for the teacher.

When she informs you at dinner that stem cells are her favorite cell, because they can become whatever they want.

When you, tickled to see WrongPlanet peeps in the news, share this correction in the NYT: http://jimromenesko.com/2012/01/06/the- ... tion-ever/ and your son's comment is "Fluttershy is the best pony. How can she not like Fluttershy?"

When you get a note from his 3rd-grade teacher, saying: "Please do not allow your son to read any more college-level textbooks, as this disrupts the natural learning process", and you don't have a single college-level textbook in the house.

When your 6yr old stumps a comedian in a comedy club, with their reply, and all they can say is 'Well, I didn't realise we had the correspondent from the Guardian in the audience' (the Guardian is a high brow broadsheet newspaper in the UK)

When they spend several hours dissecting one of the jokes, to determine why it is funny.

When the highlights of his day are:

1) spotting the first 2013 sticker on a car.

2) Learning that there's a new Vi Hart video.

This kid is awesome, and he has good tastes in ponies. By the way I was the reader who pointed out the error in the comments.

LOL, so funny, I just was thinking of you! Yes, I told him, and of course he said "Well, duh, Shutterfly is AWESOME!" I think he was quite tickled that you asked - but he doesn't quite get just how wonderfully roundabout all this WP/NYT connection is.

My daughter thinks that the Rubik's cube is a piece of cake. When I first bought it, I got it out and showed her how it worked. I asked her if she could get all the colors lined up and she smirked at me, like "Are you kidding? Who can't do this?" She then proceeded to peel off all the stickers and put them all on in the correct places. lol

When your 6yr old gets excited, when learning about the body's immune system. She says the antibodies are little superheroes, fighting off those nasty viruses that made the verruca.

One from my own past when I was about 10 years old: my maths teacher showed me a photo, in a book, of a restaurant interior. With nothing else to go by, I promptly told her that it must be the interior of a McDonald's restaurant, because only their lampshades had that particular swirling pattern. Intrigued by this, the teacher, who was my mum's friend, later went to check and found that I was 100% correct! :sunny:

. . . When one of your 4 1/2 year-old's favorite Christmas gifts is a professional pre-cutting automatic tape dispenser . . . for his many paper/tape projects.

Kind of Like this, only his operates with a lever, not a wheel : http://www.alibaba.com/product-tp/11174 ... cotch.html

Or are his parents the geeks for knowing he'd love it so much and for actually buying it?

One of my daughters is insane over Monster High and Lalaloopsy dolls. Dolls? Why, at her age I was studying the history of witchcraft and alchemy. lol

I've been patient, and I used to enjoy it for her sake but it's gone on for more than a year now. I have made no secret about the fact that I'd rather talk about ANY of her other interests. (Bring back the dolphins, electric jellyfish, archaeology, egyptian or greek mythology, ancient aliens PLEASE) She actually knows who the designers were and things about serial numbers, when each one was introduced etc., which new, unreleased items have copyrights and she draw pictures of what she thinks they are going to look like, as well as makes up her own doll themes, etc. I don't mind the latter part. My mind just shuts down as soon as I hear MH or Lala. I love her so much and try to never hurt her feelings. I just tell her that I can't focus on it for very long.

I have come to the realization that I might have to buy her a real horse to make her forget about these dolls. :P Seriously speaking, I have tried to shape my children's interests and talents into possible occupations so that their energy is focused on creating something good for themselves.
