I've been waiting for a while, I wanted to be sure. He's beginning to speak. :)

That's really great Claudia, gently encourage your son to initiate conversation this way.

Thank you everybody!
It's too soon for a conversation, he uses single words. He started therapy late, when he was 3, and he's not the same level of your kids.

The point is that he is starting to speak. Congratulations on your hard work!

I hope everyone had a good Halloween. Did anyone else attempt trick-or-treating? My son was a monkey and tried to run inside a few people's houses as soon as they opened the door. He loved ringing the doorbells and knew to take the candy, he only said "trick-or-treat" a few times but said "thank you" and "good-bye" to almost everyone after taking his treat and running off to the next house, usually while the person handing out the candy was still talking to him.... He lost interest after a while and was upset because he wanted to go to the playground. He was funny but it went well.

That's good. Halloween as such doesn't really exist here...though in recent years some stores put up decorations. We just dressed up and took a walk around the block.

Anyway I have a bit of good news, we went to the US Embassy yesterday and the Mrs's visa application was accepted. The process should be completed in a month or so.

A month? Great!

We went trick-or-treating, and it went well. I went with the kids to each door. At first I would tell them to say, "Trick or treat." Then I would say, "Take a piece of candy and put it in your bag." Then I would say, "Say, "Thank you.'" Then I would say, "Time to go. Take Mommy's hand." We did it the same way every time and did the same steps. By the end, they were often doing it without help.

The kids had both read several children's books about Halloween and we go every year.

That's great to hear, how old is he? Mine is 3 1/2 and doesn't answer questions yet, but he seems to be making a lot of progress lately, he's starting to talk in sentences so I think he might soon.

My son has been coming out with a lot of new stuff lately he's been saying "you STUPID" a lot (I think he got it from watching Charlie Brown) and "help me!" in stores which is embarrassing but lots of good stuff too. Tonight he walked up to his Dad and said "Excuse me Daddy, I want the phone". I've never heard him say "excuse me" or "I want" in proper context before. I had been prompting him to say "Mommy, may I have the black iphone please" but he actually made up his own sentence. He also surprised us by going into a sumo pose and making a Bruce Lee face too, that was very funny and so unexpected. I think he may have picked it up from a martial arts themed Scooby Doo movie he has, but I admit I don't watch everything he does so I'm not sure.

It sounds like both of your kids are doing great! My older son was still working on answering questions at four and still working a lot on vocabulary at five.

Now, at seven, he can definitely speak in sentences and answer questions. He also has a basic understanding of both words.

There are issues--retelling a story, idioms, social speech, being able to describe what something is in detail, using adjectives incorrectly. However, he can certainly communicate verbally.

(Unfortunately, due to learning issues, he needs visual aids and repetition to learn just about anything, including idioms, etc. I love videos and the computer to help him with this, but I still end up helping him a lot when I cannot find something on computer/video to help him. I make materials and we have a whole library of picture books).
