You could try hand over hand on the mouse and let him try scribbling in a paint program. Or find something that relates to a special interest that isn't too structured, the sort of thing that rewards him with fun sounds and animation for just clicking on things. Some electronics and toy stores have working displays of a variety leapfrog touch screen computers that you could try with him though they do pale in comparison to the versatility of the iphone/pad. Maybe when you come back to the US if you have a close friend or family member with one they could let him try it (of course they'd need to d/l an appropriate app but there's plenty of free ones and it only takes a minute).

Ok thanks. As usual Leapfrog is not available here.

As for Ipad etc we are putting off any major purchases till we are back in the states. Stuff like that costs twice as much here, if you can believe it!

So frustrating, can't wait to be out of here.

I wanted to clarify that the links on my website are to computer games and picture books that get read aloud to the child online. Starfall.com is an online reading program. These things mainly use a mouse and arrow keys.

My older son took a long time to learn to play board games correctly. First he had to get the speech thing down, then following directions, then waiting his turn, and then avoiding getting upset if he lost.

However, both kiddos have always loved computer games and were very eager to figure out how to use the mouse. I think that at one point I put a sticker on the correct part of the mouse for my younger son to push, but getting them to use the computer was really pretty easy because they were so motivated.

Ok thanks. I will check it out when I get home.

I've been meaning to share this video of my son at a boardwalk arcade last summer just because it's cute and he bolts at the end. We couldn't get him to sit in any of the kiddy rides but he loved and did great with the bowling game. I'm holding the camera. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welc ... DVw3YtmT2o (Note: I'll probably delete the link after a day.)

Your son is super cute! You can tell that he was having a good time.

Thanks, he knows it too! Often if he's misbehaving and you scold him he'll take his fingers and push up the corners of his mouth into a smile because he wants you to smile too. Very effective at manipulating me into forgetting why I'm mad.

It's hard getting a good video. 90% of the time he's either trying to take the camera from me or it's video of him running away or it's of him being "difficult".

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a lot of videos of my son where he's walking up to the camera, pointing to it and saying "S" (from the Sony logo.)

And much of the time by the time you get the camera out, they've already stopped doing the thing you wanted to record!

Ok here is the little guy singing the ABC song and mumbling London Bridge. He does seem to be listening to me here but he would have kept playing anyway. This was right before his third birthday, which inspired me to buy him a kiddie half-scale guitar for his birthday.

For some reason that link is taking me to my own videos. If you're using Shutterfly too the way I was able to share the video is I emailed it to myself, and shared the link from the email. :)

Took this on the weekend before James' Kindy Disco. It looks like a classic "You are in big trouble" pose or something
Actually he is watching the Number Jacks on TV and doing a weird Jaw jutting thing, he had a great time at the Disco apparently.

I think that we all have some pretty cute kids!

I need to record my kids again. I finally got a new memory card for my digital camera a month ago that I haven't used yet.
