I found these when wandering around on etsy for treasury ideas

and was curious as to if they actually help. I know personally I like my heavy leather and stud jacket, so I don't know if its just a personal preference or if the weighted thing is an across the board thing.

This is weird but my son used a weighted vest during school when his IEP called for occupational therapy. Like many with AS his handwriting has always been atrocious. The difference in his handwriting with the vest on and off was astounding.

I'm seriously tempted to make one of those fidget pillows (maybe 2 so I can keep one at work  )

I made my own versions of these things, and regularly wear what most people would consider very heavy clothing, even in summer. I also have a massage chair that provides the deep tissue massage Aspies tend to enjoy. And I quite like when my cats sit or sleep on top of me.

Temple Grandin wrote about her experiences creating a chute-like contraption for herself, which in turn led to her ideas about chutes for farm animals going to slaughter. There seems to be something significant here.

Wow. Now I feel have to try this out ... handwriting is a huge issue for my son, to where we've pretty much given up on it. I wonder if there is a way for me to create a makeshift vest to test it out without spending $60 ....

We've used the weight blakets and vests at school on and off for the last few years depending on were we lived at the time and what they aloud. They realy seemed to help jake and both our pc's have massage chairs that he adores. We got the chairs at office max and they were not much more then the others that I could stand to sit in with a bad back or would hold my large husband.

You can use a variety of things. You could probably find a site on line that will give you ideas. I bought some modeling clay( the kind that won't dry out) and my son uses it instead now for playing and stress relief. DW_a_mom, I'll be interested to hear if your son's handwriting improves too. BTW , he also does better with mechanical pencils.

Our OT suggested that my son use his school backpack like a weighted vest.
I used to carry his backpack in to school for him, now he puts it on and he is calmer in the morning. He will often keep his backpack on for up to half an hour after getting home as well.

We do the same thing with the backpack aurea.

I really like that weighted pillow with the fidget ribbons. Might have to see if I can do something similar.
