Hi I have a nephew named Logan he's the usual tantrum if he doesn't get his way or whining Mommy (if me etc. tell him he was bad etc.) typical 2 year old and such but the other day we went to his house and he was crying (we assumed he got into trouble) but his mom said he spilled his cereal and was crying over it although she was telling him it's ok etc. I found it odd Meltdowns at 2? Sure tantrums not getting your way etc. but you spill your cereal (which you could get more) and crying? Thanks WP parents. :-)

That is totally my son. To him that is a mistake, and it doesn't matter if you say it's OK. I just had the same thing happen when he accidently threw away a disposible cup when we were brushing our teeth. I showed him that I have a million more but that didn't make him feel better. He cried about it for 2 days.

Some children are like that. Some get upset by the sensation (the milk may be on their clothes, for example), and some may dislike not being able to do everything the way they think they ought to be able. And, some, get bothered by both. Then its really fun ;)

He might have just been in need of a nap or coming down with a cold it will put a kid of that age out of sorts. Don't be to shocked if they little guy is sick in the next few days.

My 22 moth daughter meltdown if anything goes different from her will. If a clock doesn't tick. If the shoes are not the one she want. If the water went to the ground and I can continue with a long long list.

I'm going to a specialist this evening. I know its too young for a DX but at least I hope she can help us. My mum said that I had a similar behavior (not that much indeed) and actually I have AS, so... I dunno

To answer your question: 1 episode is not enough data.

Something I find that helps if they are upset because my children made a mistake is saying "uh oh, let's clean it up." If they have a hand in cleaning it up it usually helps. At least with my little guys.

My, now 3 year old, will say. "uh oh, uh oh .... clean it up, clean it up, paper towels." It's kind of like it's fixable and I can fix it feeling.

Hi, I am a trained childcare worker/mother-craft nurse. This is very very normal for any 2 year old. Why? I don't know, but when I was working I would see this behavior all the time.

Uh, I do that as an adult. It just feels bad to mess something up that is so simple & that most ppl do correctly the vast majority of the time. Then the feelings of wasted time (preparing the bowl of cereal, cleaning time, then preparing another bowl) & resources (cereal, milk, bowl, spoon, paper towels, cleaning agent, clean bowl (or time to clean bowl + soap & drying towel), more cereal, more milk, etc.) kick in.

I would still freak out over that. I wouldn't cry, but I would definately get all riled up about it.
