That's safe for him to share his rather limited and obsessive interests in. He is moderately autistic, but called "over acheiving" because he functions rather high in his school environment ... if one doesn't take social interaction into account, that is. Anyway, he wants to play on the internet, but I worry about safety, and about his feelings and the feelings of others because of his very limited interest areas and so forth. Someone told me about this place, but I'm not sure. Do any parents out there have any suggestions. I have four sons and a daughter. Two of my sons are biological and two are stepsons and a stepdaughter. Three of the four boys are diagnosed on the autism spectrum, while the first has not otherwise specified developmental differences. My daughter is, as yet, seemingly neurotypical. A great thing would be to find an internet space that any of the boys could visit to talk to and with other kids without feeling self conscious or being mis-understood ...

Has anybody out there found anything like that for their kids?

Well I'm not a parent, but there's a kids and teens section here at this forum. Overall, Wrong Planet is a wonderful planet for aspies of all ages!

Welcome to the forums! :)

You have found the right place. The challenge is encouraging your children to get involved.

Um... you're looking at it? ;)

But seriously I kid you not, WP is a great place for aspies regardless of age. We have a forum for the younger kids where they can get together. I think it would be a great place for your sons to network with other aspies, and it would be a great resource when they get older. I can speak from personal experience, I joined when I was about seventh or eighth grade, under a different name (had to switch because I forgot the password), and enjoyed it immensely. Now it's a great place for me to discuss news and autism politics.

Best thing is for him join a private moderated forum run by an aspeger's nonprofit organizaion. AANE.ORG is one. Maybe you'd donate some money to them and ask them to help you?

I am pretty sure that Wrong Planet a privately moderated forum run by an aspeger's nonprofit organization. In any case, I enjoy spending my time talking here. You might want to steer your sons towards the teen's section. While there is nothing wrong with the general discussion, it can be a bit overly dramatic at times. Best for them to start off simply if they are timid.

People don't get away with being too mean here generally, the mods are decent about that.

I think this place is great and safe. First time I came here I felt a lot less isolated. I've made some friends on here.
