My son has recently been asking more questions about his diagnosis, mainly about whether this is why he is "different" from his peers, or "weird" which is a description of himself which he likes!

He is a very good reader, and I wondered if anyone could recommend good books for this age group - nothing too childish. He welcomed my suggestion that I get a book about it, as he likes reading. :)

Thanks.

There's a good selection on this site, I think they'll deliver anywhere in the world:

Thanks for that. :D Delivery won't be a problem as I'm in Scotland! Have you read/bought any of them yourself?

Not many, I have to admit, mostly more technical stuff. I was going to suggest one called All Cats Have Asperger Syndrome, but then he might consider it a bit childish - it is great though, even I liked it at 34 years old (but then again I'm a big cat fan!)

Freaks, Geeks and Asperger Syndrome is supposed to be very good, although I'm still working round to reading it. It might be pitched a bit above his age level, but was written by a 13 year old, so it's very accessible.

Yes, the two you mention are the ones I keep hearing about, but you're right in that the first seems too childish and the second is still too "old" for him. I've already spotted a couple of good ones on the NAS website, which I'll probably get.

Kenneth Hall's Asperger Syndrome, The Universe and Everything - my son read it when he was about 9 years old and loved it! Kenneth Hall wrote it when he was 10 y.o. It's a very engaging book, and for my son, it was the first time he felt like he wasn't the only one in the world who felt like he did and experienced the world the way he did. Of course, he didn't identify with everything, but he did with so much that it was wonderful for him.

Thanks for that recommendation. :D I'll check it out and see if I can get it on Amazon.
