The latest statistics on exclusions here in the UK are digraceful. 20% of children here are special needs and 20% of children here are failing or being failed by a poor system. Of those endless numbers ( I can provide the stats per county!) are being excluded.

But many times exclusion leads to problems for the schools. Complaints, uproars and much discontent every time a kid gets excluded. It is open to a lot of critic ...quite rightly. So what can the schools do to exclude a pupil without the fuss and bother?

Answer EXCLUDE THEM FROM INDIVIDUAL SUBJECTS!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !!1

My son who is diagnosed ADHD/Epilepsy/Dyspraxia and has a full statement of ed needs has been without his computer access for over a month now.......why? Because he signed onto a proxy server and got onto facebook......not the greatest of security systems but hey that is what these kids are designed to do...break systems and codes......if it weren't for those of us on the spectrum would we have the Internet?? So rather than ask him how he did it, praise him for being clever enough to do it and then take measures to prevent it in the future .....THEY BAN HIM FROM THE COMPUTER! But EVERY class requires computer access?????

So for a month my son has been offered games on the Wii, sat in a room reading a book or pacified in some other way.....missed most of his lessons and therefore his education. Last week he was banned from cookery....why? Noone knows, apparently it was a misunderstanding .......we find out now?

So 2 days ago I withdrew him from school, there seemed little point in him being there as it was making him agitated and fed up. Amazing how quickly he got his internet access back......thank goodness.

SO......RED FLAG WARNING FOR THOSE IN THE UK.....Do check with your kids if they are INCLUDED in every lesson.........I didn't find out that my son was excluded until 2weeks in. He forgot to tell me

Seems schools are perfectly within their rights to ban access on computers for the slightest breach. Yes of course I understand that there are many dangerous sites....BUT my son has a statement of special educational needs and has one to one help......so where was the supervision?? And how has the system been improved??? It hasn't.

Computer access means just that.......they can't even access a word document.........it's not INTERNET access that is prohibited......it's COMPUTING FULL STOP. Even his Alphasmart was taken away!

In short, the message is to parents, please be aware that schools whilst not excluding from SCHOOL itself, may be taking shortcuts and excluding children from individual subjects.....without having to inform the parents. Just be aware that's all. We are meant to be operating an ALL INCLUSIVE education here in the UK......that's why we have ISOLATION rooms called INCLUSION rooms when quite clearly they are EXCLUSION rooms.

This is why if I ever have my own children I am going to homeschool.

Seems like our school have a problem with children with ADHD...in the last 3 days we have one child attacking the headteacher...expelled, another smoking weed.....excluded 5 days, another swearing under his breath........seclusion for 45mins...............another swore at teacher.....seclusion, inclusion, exclusion 3days.

Of the children above 2 are diagnosed with ADHD and whilst 1 clearly is and awaiting an assesement and the other...not sure never met him but my kids say for sure he is ADHD too ..in their opinion.

Yesterday my son (just returned to school as he was BANNED from ALL computer access so withdrawn from school for 2days, he was banned for a month!) went to Art, he has never got along with the teacher but enjoys art...Art is a RED FLAG arena as it is known that teacher and pupil do not hold any respect for each other. Anyway sorry, rambling...there was some sand on his desk, he doesn't like the feel of it on his skin, so quietly he swore under his breath..........teacher immediately bellowed at him and asked him to leave the classroom This escalated the situation as you can imagine and he was put into the SECLUSION/aka INCLUSION room for nearly an hour.

During this time of being contained in a small place, with other children isolated he witnessed another pupil take her safety pins out of her trousers and proceed to SELF HARM......

With my son in meltdown and ME FURIOUS, I suggested to school that since he is epileptic I keep him off school the next day as he was pretty spun out and I was worried he would fit. Nooooo please don't keep him off she pleaded!! Ok I said..if you can promise me he will be SAFE, I will send him in. Yes no problem was the reply.

So WHY today was I called in to pick him up as he had had another meltdown?? How was he SAFE? He is one of the few lucky children in the United Kingdom to be protected by a STATEMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS........and he is clearly NOT SAFE.

So furious was I that I was shaking with rage.....my son had been the victim of INFORMAL EXCLUSIONS and there is no paperwork to back it up?? So imagine how offended and ANGRY was I when the EDUCATIONAL WELFARE OFFICER called me this afternoon to ask me why his attendance was so poor??????? Urrrghhhhhhh......ASK THE SCHOOL?????

27% OF CHILDREN WITH A STATEMENT OF SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS ARE EXCLUDED FROM SCHOOL

Money designated for SEN in the UK is NOT RINGFENCED....so how much actually gets to where it is designed to go is questionable.

What is happening in my childrens school is underhand, cruel, discriminatory and down right wrong. Angry? Yes I am ...very.

REMEMBER IN THE UK THE WORD, INCLUSION APPEARS TO MEAN....SECLUSION....or it does in our school
