We had the first meeting of dd5's treatment assessment.

I was wondering what sort of treatment others have gotten for their asd kids? They were recommendings some very time intensive and extremely expensive things. Some I didn't agree with in principal anyway, but maybe I am wrong. One thing they said we need is parent training, totally agreed and set that one up. But then they said we should pull her out of daycare and have a trained aid stay with her during the day, which would be super expensive. This also seemed counter productive to me? Is it better to isolate her like that? In daycare, there are 5 other kids in her "class" which is a good small number. I figured it was better to have her around other kids so she could learn from them and interact? She also really likes it there and they are working with us. I am not a fan of this idea.

What have others done?

How mild or severe is her autism, and how much is she interacting with the other children? Is the trained aide supposed to do ABA, or just babysit? Who would pay the cost for the aide? Is having the aide help her at daycare an option?

At least you got some recommendations. At DS's diagnosis at age 5, we were basically told to go ask the school for an IEP, and given a list of 200+ service providers in the area. Not exactly much guidance there, so I started with the things that were most obvious and simplest to find -- speech, OT, and a social skills class. Two years later we're finally looking into ABA, in some ways I wish we'd started with that first.
