first, thank you all for the suggestions for bedtime =) while we werent able to find luck with any of the suggestions, it did help a lot in realizing that so many other parents are going thru extreme or unusual measures to get their kids to sleep. it encouraged and allowed me to "give up" on the typical sleeping arrangement of my son sleeping in his shared room with his brother.

for the past week, i have succeeded in getting my son sound asleep within 10-35 minutes of going to bed, averaging about 20-25 mins but a little less or more depending on how tired or wound up he is. success was found with just one tiny little thing, i simply did what i already knew worked.

at bedtime, he lays down with me in my bed right against my back. i lay there watching tv and he will toss and turn a few minutes, then finally settle down and go to sleep. he likes the tv on because it gives light and a little noise, he cant see it from behind me and doesnt even try watching so its not a distraction. in the past this would be the last resort after hes been bouncing all over his own room for an hour and unable to go to sleep, but as the first resort, its working.

so its not perfect, its not typical, but he is sleeping and i get some quiet time now after hes asleep which is saving my sanity. we may need to reconsider their room to allow for a bed that i can lay in there with him in, that way i get my own bed space to myself and my back can be happier too. right now they have a double toddler mattress loft bed that we built, and i am not hauling my fat butt up there and risk breaking the bed and my neck to get him to sleep.

:lmao: That last comment was too funny.

Happy you've found what works. I co-sleep with my 8yr old daughter. It's just me and her and I have no plans on getting involved with anyone any time soon, so we snuggle up every night. Only thing is that she is a very restless sleeper and rolls around in the bed everywhere! It's not uncommon to wake up in the middle of the night to find her sideways or upside down. Luckily, even though she's a restless sleeper in the regards that she shifts around a lot, it's hard to wake her up once she goes out - so I can move her back to her pillow and she stays asleep the whole time.

They're only little once! Enjoy the snuggles while you can!
