I ordered the book "All Cats have Aspergers" and received it today. In the car on the way home I told my son I have a book for him, but I am not sure he will like it. He took it and read the title. I told him his diagnosis is PDD-NOS but it is similar to something called Aspergers and some of the book will apply to him, some won't. He started crying and said "Are you saying I have a cat disease?"

I told him no and explained it is an analogy comparing children to cats. He said OK and started reading. I didn't expect the book to go over well with him but, surprisingly, it did. He said a lot of it sounds like him.

I have that book also...I love cats and think it's really cute. There's another version with dogs for ADHD that is nice also.

Sorry to hear it upset him initially...

I haven't read the book, but given the title and my 4 year-old son's special interest in cats, I am thinking it will make for a good read someday. I'm glad the book went over well for your son.

It actually made me laugh (not out loud) at his initial response. I was very nervous he would get very defensive reading the book.

I'd like to see the dog/ADHD one, I've always felt there is "cat" aspergers and "dog" aspergers and since the two are often co-morbid perhaps that explains it. :D

That's a good book. Also, I'm not diseased, I'm unique. :)

My son takes things so literally i heard him arguing with his brother that cats really do have Asperger's Syndrome. Of course i pointed out that the book is intended to be more metaphoric than literal, but i also told my son he's free to view it however he would like to.

Peace
