It seems almost like physical turrets, is there such a thing.

Through most of the day now on and off he will make a sound then flick his head or arm and shut his eyes then open them again. He does not seem to be stressed but seems to no be able to stop it.

He goes through cycles of this every once in a while the i will go for ages, anyone have similar?

Sounds like Tourette's syndrome to me. In autistic individuals it can be difficult to differentiate from stimming sometimes. Stimming is repetitive movements usually done to self-soothe. If these tics are completely involuntarily it is probably Tourette's.

Tourettes by definition must include both verbal and complex physical tics and they must be consistently present over some period of time (I forget how long).

Simple motor tics are actually (supposedly) common in normally developing kids and are not necessarily Tourette's. Tourette's is also associated with attention difficulties. On the other hand, kids with attention difficulties are more likely to have tics, although they may not necessarily qualify as Tourette's.

What you describe - making a sound and then flicking his head - is a complex motor tic. Eye blinking is a simple tic. The former would tend to suggest Tourette's - I would see a doctor about that. There are medications and interventions that can help.

(I'm not an expert. I have a 12 yr old boy with ADHD and an eye blinking tic. Thus far, that's all he's diagnosed with.)

Is he on meds? Some antipsychotics like Risperdal and Abilify, which are used for autism, can cause tics/movement disorders as a side effect. It can be serious. Stimulants for ADHD can also cause this.

My kiddo has 2 physical tics. The neuropsych didn't seemed too concerned about it...I don't know what else to do either. It doesn't seem sensory related.
