here it is nov 1. last nov is when we originally requested asd evaluation from our youngest's school, so about an entire year. this past april we were still waiting, so had him offically dx by an outside psych in may. in june his school refused to diagnose him asd, keeping him in sped only with sli dx.

a few weeks ago i was debating on asking for an IEE or re-evaluation, ended up just talking to the sped director and requesting a new iep mtg because of the new issues this year. they agreed to do a re-determination (just looking at all previously gathered info, instead of redoing the entire evaluation).

what got us the asd educational diagnosis? school has a new psych this year. that seems to be the vital difference, an evaluator without preconceived ideas and one who actually noted detailed characteristics of our sons interactions in the classroom.

we have another iep mtg this friday, to redo the iep and put more supports in place to help with issues our son is having.

i have several ideas and am looking for more things that may help with his unique needs, trying to be actually prepared for this one instead of feeling thrown into the deep end like last year. but its a huge relief to actually feel like the school is working FOR him, instead of against us.

It's incredible how long it can take. I hope the supports really help and life gets better for you and child.

Good luck! I think I've made lists and lists of IEP ideas in other threads, so if you search back, you can find lots of good stuff. I'll try listing again but my memory was probably better back closer to when we were actually using more supports and accommodations:

Pragmatic speech
Lunch bunch / social skills speech
Homework control (ability to reduce / sign out / change)
In class accommodations to work load / method
Preferred seating
Wiggle permission
Stim permission
Stim accessories if used
OT
Resource for weak areas
Expanded time on tests
Alternate location for tests if desired
Escape clause (place to go, no questions asked, when overwhelmed and headed towards a melt-down; a first step in self-advocacy for meltdown recognition and prevention)
