New sensory prob
Suddenly my 5 year old Autie daughter (Maddy) is having issues with her underwear. I have the same problem and wear the boy short underwear...I wore boxers for awhile too... but I cant find the boy shorts in her size. She is constantly pulling at her undies (picking her rear), sticking her hand down the back of her pants and she squats all the time (with knees out to the side). My 8 year old Aspie son gave up wearing underwear over a year ago. I thought maybe it would be better if Maddy just didnt wear them, however she pulls the whole Rainman underwear thing. The underwear are supposed to go on so she refuses to put her pants on without them.
I have made sure that she doesnt have any problems down there and know that it is just a sensory thing. I think it started because its been so cold that she has to wear heavier clothes and sometimes I have to put tights on under her pants. We are used to living in California so tight, heavy, warm clothes are not needed. Now, though, she seems to be fixated on the elastic around her legs and them riding up even with only her jammies on. I bought her new underwear that are bigger but she still has the problem. She just looks so uncomfortable and I cant come up with a solution. I think Ive tried all that can be done so I thought Id ask....maybe someone has a solution.

Ah yes, underwear.
You might try buying her some stretch shorts, cutting out the tags, and telling her it's underwear...it might as well be if you think about it.
Sometimes homeopathic remedies help with these kinds of sensitivities. Not sure if this is something that interests you. In case it is, here is the link to a recent blog post on the topic. When Clothes Hurt, Homeopathy Can HelpWeb Page Name
All three of you have really great ideas. I did look at the Claesens site but I cant find the underwear...I clicked on the link for underwear and pjs but Ill I get are jammies. For now Im going to try Chronos idea as she already has some "bike" shorts I can try. If that doesnt work Ill try Claesens again and Im also going to look at the homeopathic remedies. Im tired of seeing her suffer and squirm all day so Ill look into all ideas. I tried this morning to tell her that not everyone wears underwear....Luc doesnt wear underwear and I named a friend of mine... but she says "Maddy wears underwear" LOL. So now I just have to convince her that her shorts are underwear...too bad they dont have princesses or strawberry shortcake on them.
Thanks guys
I did find the Claesen's underwear and the French site as well....They are expensive so Ill try a pair and see if they work....Guess what? Ive been looking everywhere for boy shorts and now that you gave me this clothing line I found two other French clothing stores that also sell boy shorts for girls...I even found some with no seam around the legs. Ive been hunting high and low for them now they are everywhere, typical!
No suggestions at all here. I thought that was normal... huh. Explains why nobody else I know is constantly adjusting. And I'm the same way-- underwear is SUPPOSED to go on.
It's not that bad, it just needs constant adjusting.

NOT A DOCTOR
Just wanted to add that in addition to the style and material of the underwear, how they are washed can also impact their comfort too. We have to wash our clothes in unscented detergent specifically made for sensitive skin, and fabric softener is a big no no (it is just a layer of irritating chemicals and fragrances sitting on top of the fabric of your clothes).
Dandelionfireworks...you are right there has to be adjustments! As a matter of fact I caught myself doing that very thing while walking to pick up my kids LOL.
annotated_alice...I moved to France so I could not use my usual laundry soap but I did find something that is mild but still works on stains. The problem is that we dont have a dryer (most people dont) so I have to iron her undies to make them soft otherwise they are stiff and that just makes things worse.
I also have sensory tactile issues and have always had issues with clothes. I remember when I was two and my Mom tried to make me wear a dress with lace. I remember lying on the floor screaming and clawing at myself..I can still feel that when I think about it. I cut the tags off my clothes and I am afraid to buy stuff online because it may be itchy. I bought some clothes not long ago that looked soft but felt like fiberglass!
I found some boy short underwear for Maddy and even found some with Strawberry Shortcake and Hello Kitty so I hope that they work. I tried the bike shorts and she wore them to bed but refused to wear them to school. I think she wouldnt have as much of a problem if she was not addicted to dresses LOL. Since we live in a colder climate she has to wear tights...she actually likes the tightness and compression aspect of tights but she does not like what they do to her undies. I do manage to get her to wear leggings and those seem to be better but she is fixated now so its hard to get her to ignore them. I also do the same thing. Like if I have a shirt and the tag is driving me nuts, I have someone cut it off but I can still feel it because I have focused on it for so long...to the point where I can not wear the shirt anymore.
Im pretty used to this (just sometimes need help with a solution) as I have five kids and they all had some sensory issues. The worst was actually my only NT child. She could not stand the seam in socks. She would scream in agony if they did not go perfectly across her toe. I wish they would have had seamless socks back then.
wait. They make seamless socks? who makes that? i'm in france too and i would probably hunt you down just to hug you if you gave me a solution , i've been fighting with the seams of my socks since kindergarten lol....
I found this site that has international shipping http://www.shoebuy.com/seamless-socks.htm but Im sure you could find a site here in France. My French is bad and I dont know how to say or spell "seamless".....If you dont either my husband will be home from work in about a half hour and I will do a search for you and post more sites.
It looks like you speak French (just looked at your signature) so just do a google search and you should come up with some. They are very common now.

?!?!?!?
I used to cut the seams out of all of my socks. I've found if I buy oversized Haynes socks, I can adjust them such that the seam isn't in my way though. But how wonderful! Seamless socks!
