My blessed 8 year old moderately functioning son has never liked cartoons too much.

However, he has always been interested in the old shows I used to watch. Among them: Andy Griffith, Nanny, All in the Family, Sanford and Son,The Jeffersons, etc etc.

The canned laughter on those shows is an EXCELLENT way for youngsters to anticipate laughter and humor.

Not to mention these shows are healthier than most.

This has helped my son so much in the laughter and humor department, and anticipating jokes.

So much therapy for the cost of electricity. :D

He also loves Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. This helps him with anticipation skills and language skills.

Comments?

Video games improved my social skills. I'd definitely believe TV could do it. :D If he reads, books are good, too. One thing would be how fake the interactions are in fiction, though. Everyone is ten times wittier in books. I've been told everyone is really rude in most fiction aimed at tweens, but I can't see it. A lot of children's shows have highly artificial situations and people. I recall one book I read that featured an alien who'd been learning to interact with humans by watching TV.
