Special Needs/ASD Daycare...
This post is only partly ASD related...
I posted a while back about concern for child care for my 5 year old with Asperger's who will start school in a few months. He won't be able to stay where he is now and there is no way that we can do summers, holidays, and snow days (we are in VA but get a TON of days out due to snow, generally about a month each winter, insane, I know). I have a friend with a 6 almost 7 year old with Asperger's and they are also having major child care issues. There aren't very many options in this area and I think people/centers are REALLY hesitant with kids on the spectrum. This is a small, pretty rural area, so there aren't a lot of services. However I know of at least 4 kids elementary school age with Asperger's and I know there are plenty more on the spectrum around here.
Anyway, I thought and thought about solutions for this issue and came up with a great (I think, anyway) idea. Problem is I have NO clue where to start, so I figured I would start right here with you all on this board! I am SERIOUSLY considering opening a day care for kids on the spectrum. Thing is, I have NO business experience. I don't have money to get started either, but some friends have suggested I look into grants and such. I think that this is something that is really needed in this area.
Anyway...Please give me ANY advice you can come up with! Is there anyone out there that is familiar with starting/running a special needs daycare?
Sorry to be so broad, but I am lost as to where to start, but this is something I really want to pursue. Any input of any kind would be great, even if you just say I'm crazy, lol!
Thanks in advance!! !

I love it!
Step 1 - go on line and find your state's licensing, certification, and education requirements. It could take up to a year to get all those ducks in a row.
Step 2 - find out what your local government has to say. Zoning, local business taxes, etc.
Step 3 - go to the IRS website and dowload Publication 583, Starting a Business and Keeping Records.
That ought to keep you busy for a while
