Help is in sight!
Good news everyone! Today we had our appointment to review the findings of the developmental ped and psych from our regional center. This has been a long since last spring process. We went in prepared with a list of things that Chris does that they may not have known about or seen since they only met him 1 time and observed him for 1 day during summer school. At first it felt like they were trying to down play things by asking about other family members with 'social problems'. It sounded like they were leaning toward denying services. YES... I would have FREAKED! Then finally they said that while they did not think that his condition was permanently disabling that they did have some programs that would help him. Whew... That is if we could live with having our son labled autistic. Well... like I told Steve on the way out, if the label fits. I mean geesh! Chris is who he is. If their services can help him to assimilate better so that he is not so severely treated through school and/or life then by all means we want what is best for Chris. The doctors were very nice and I totally understand that they are just doing their jobs but what a relief to have them find us eligible for services. I know that we cannot do this alone because the things that we have tried do not seem to make a huge difference for Chris.
Anyway.... just had to share. Now we have to wait a few months to see our coordinator due to paperwork processing but at least we know that help is on the horizon!

Congratulations! It sounds like you are at the same point that I am just getting approved for services. It is interesting that your regional center has a dev ped. We had to pay for ours on our own, and it cost about $1,800 total- 3 days of evals and 1 day to discuss the findings. But she was very knowledgeable and thorough, and she really told us a lot we didn't know.
