Research study for working parents: Participation requested
Dear working parents of children with autism,
To date, surprisingly little work has been conducted to examine how parents of children with autism simultaneously manage providing care for their children while also trying to maintain paid employment. My research team and I are very interested in adding to our collective understanding of these very important issues. Our goal is to help managers and organizations better understand the unique challenges you face, and what they can do to help.
If you are a parent of a child with autism, and currently working at least part-time, we would greatly appreciate you taking 10 minutes to complete a short online survey. Please follow this link to participate:

Participation in this study is voluntary and you may withdraw from participation at any time. All responses are completely anonymous. Data will only be accessible by the study researchers, and will be destroyed after five years. If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant you may contact Robert C. Mathews, Institutional Review Board (IRB), LSU, at 225 – 578 - 8692.
This is our second study on this important topic. Given some of you may have participated in the first study, if you are interested in obtaining results from our first study (which will be published in the Journal of Vocational Behavior), please feel free to contact us at Matthews @ lsu.edu.
Thank you,
Russell Matthews, Ph.D., - Louisiana State University
Kristen Shockley, Ph.D., Baruch College
Thank you all who have already completed the survey, we have had almost 30 responses. We really appreciate you taking the time to participate. We are hoping to collect responses from about 15 more parents. In particular we need more Dads to complete the survey.
If you are a Dad of a child with autism please consider completing the survey (Moms, you are still more than welcome to participate too). Alternatively, if you know of any Dads who might be willing to complete the survey, we would appreciate it if you could forward the survey link to them. Then link is http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/AutismExperienceSurvey and the survey only takes about 10 minutes to complete.
The more participants we have, the greater impact our results can have in influencing managers and organizations alike. Thank you again.
-Russell
