How does your child react to your animal?

We got our first dog when our boy was about twelve or thirteen. He really loves the dog and in past years would often say time and again - "Look at the dog". However he does not pick up on (dog) cues and can annoy and really rile the dog at times. Also he shows no responsibility at all for the dog's care.

Our 6 year old is VERY interested in animals. He has a cat just for him and I do not do ANY of the care of this cat. He has been doing it all since he was about 4. I personally do not care for cats but for our son when the cats owners came over to collect their cat after us cat sitting for a few weeks my son spoke real words to us all for the first time ever at 3. Even my friend could not take the cat from him after that. Since then my son and his cat are inseparable.

My daughter refuses to go into the backyard during springtime because of the bird calls.
