I am not trying to stir a nest here. I am finding my journey with my just over one year old son a very interesting one. I just thought I would share a little of my experience with him

He is a little young to know for sure, but man is he expressive. First it was the unsettling eye contact and even chasing the cats around to get him to look him in the eyes. Now he babbles at me and mom, looking us directly in the eyes and then pausing for expectantly for responses. It is a little disconcerting as I have no idea how to respond, other than to say I have no idea what your saying. I have practiced reading facial expressions, so I can tell he is making expressions at me, but I stare back blankly when I give my response.

The other day though really through me for a loop, that as he was "talking" to me, he starting moving his hands around calmly like one sees from a public speaker. Now obviously I am not that expressive though I have made in effort to try to exagerate slighlty to have some for him, but momma isn't particularly expressive either. Neither of us talk with our hands (though I have learned to use them some for public presentations, I don't commonly use them). He had to have gotten this from Daycare since we both work. It isn't innate is it?

He could certainly have learned gestures from someone at daycare. There is a large learned component of gestures, as the amount used varies from culture to culture. (Italians are known for using lots, for instance.)
