Mike, I have a 10 yr old, so I haven't asked yet about adult services, yet. I hope I can get get a recommendation from my dentist at whatever time we need to transition.

My advice would be to call up the place you used to go to, and see if they can either help you there, or give you a recommendation. Not all pediatric dentist places can accommodate autistic kids well, even if they say they can. We had another dentist at the same place we currently go, in an emergency situation, and he was not adequate for our needs. It ended up being Ok, but far from ideal. We really have to only get appointments with "our" guy. If your "guy" is still in practice, that is who I would ask.

If this is not feasible because you have moved or the person is no longer in practice, I recommend trying a local parent group online to see if they would give you a recommendation for a pediatric place, and then cal there and see if they do adults, or if you can get a recommendation.

Alternately, if you have a GP, very familiar with autism, you might be able to get a recommendation there.

Dental phobias are not uncommon, even in NT adults.

If you are in the US, you could probably even call 1-800-Dentist and ask for a referral to a dentist who specializes in adults with extreme dental phobia. They would likely have access to the kinds of interventions you would need.
